Varied Protocols of IVF Treatment

As a preferred IVF provider, Dr. Randy S. Morris ensures that each and every patient is offered a customized IVF protocol designed to meet their individual needs.Conventional IVF TreatmentThis is the traditional IVF treatment process selected for women who are capable of producing multiple egg follicles without medical complications. Typically, using high dosages of powerful fertility drugs, a woman is able to produce 10 or more egg follicles. After undergoing a regimen of fertility drug injections, a woman’s matured egg follicles are surgically retrieved and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory. After the resulting embryos have developed in vitro to the blastocyst stage (typically 5 days in vitro growth), one or more quality embryo is selected for transfer to the woman’s uterus via a catheter. Remaining embryos are commonly cryopreserved for future Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) procedures.Minimal Stimulation IVF (Mini IVF)Mini IVF is recommended for women who are prone to suffering from Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). OHSS and PCOS are conditions caused when a woman is sensitive to high dosages of powerful fertility drugs. Fewer injectable fertility medications are used in conjunction with oral fertility drugs to induce a woman’s ovaries into producing only 3 to 5 high quality eggs. These eggs are then fertilized in vitro with the resulting embryos monitored for growth and development through the blastocyst stage. A predetermine amount of high quality embryos are then transferred to the woman’s uterus for implantation into her uterine lining. Excessive quality embryos can be cryopreserved for FETs.In addition to lowering a woman’s chances of developing OHSS or PCOS, Mini IVF treatments are less in cost than the traditional IVF procedure.Natural IVF TreatmentThrough Natural IVF, a woman’s one natural monthly egg is monitored until it has reached a matured state for harvesting through surgical aspiration. No fertility medications are used to stimulate the woman’s egg production. Once the woman’s egg has reached a matured state, it is surgically retrieved. The egg is then fertilized in vitro with sperm. The method of fertilization typically conducted through a procedure known as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). ICSI is procedure whereby the embryologist injects a sperm directly into the egg. Once the fertilized egg develops into an embryo, it is monitored for growth and development in vitro. Then, the embryo is transferred to the woman’s uterus for implantation into her uterine lining.Natural IVF is the preferred treatment for woman wanting to avoid:

  • Fertility drugs
  • Multiple pregnancy
  • Cryopreservation of extra embryos
