Which Fertility Drugs Are Covered By Insurance In Illinois?

Even if you have insurance coverage for infertility treatment, the cost of fertility drugs is overwhelming to even the most financially sound patients. Infertility insurance coverage counseling is available to you throughout your treatment at IVF1. The insurance experts at IVF1 will help you maximize your insurance coverage for infertility treatment – including fertility drugs.

Insurance Coverage for Fertility Drugs

Every insurance carrier offers a variety of policies that may – or may not – cover fertility drugs. A particular brand of insurance is not indicative of coverage. The good news is that nearly every major medical insurance provider does offer some type of infertility treatment coverage. IVF1 accepts the following insurance plans covering the cost of infertility treatment:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield POS
  • HMO Illinois
  • Blue Advantage HMO
  • Aetna
  • United Health Care HMO
  • United Health Care PPO
  • United Health Care POS
  • United Resources Network
  • PHCS
  • Private Indemnity
  • And many more . . .

Illinois Law Mandating Insurance Coverage for Infertility

Illinois law requires insurance companies and HMOs to provide coverage for infertility to employee groups of 25+. The Illinois law does not apply to self-insured employers, to trusts, or to insurance policies written outside of the state.

The best way to determine if your medical insurance provides infertility benefits – including fertility medications – is to contact your insurer directly.

Illinois law requires coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility be treated the same as for any other medical condition covered by the policy. A policy may not apply any unique co-payments or deductibles for infertility coverage – including prescription fertility drugs. If the policy does not contain a prescription drug benefit, coverage must be included solely for the coverage of prescription drugs therapies for infertility.
