Project Description

PGD: Polar body biopsy monosomy 21

This image shows the 1st polar body. Two chromosomes are being tested here which are shown in green and orange. In a normal embryo, there should be two green dots and two orange dots. There are two green dots. However, there are three orange dots, which is abnormal. The orange dots represent chromosome 21. An extra chromosome in the polar body means that there is one missing in the embryo itself. The 2nd polar body looks as it should. This confirms that the embryo is missing a copy of chromosome 21.
