PGD: Polar body biopsy: Trisomy 21
This image shows the 1st polar body. Two chromosomes are being tested here which are shown in green and orange. In a normal embryo, there should be two green dots and two orange dots. There are two green dots. However, there is only one orange dot which is abnormal. The orange dots represent chromosome 21. A missing chromosome in the polar body means that there is one extra in the embryo itself. The 2nd polar body looks as it should. This confirms that the embryo has an extra copy of chromosome 21.
