PGD: Blastomere biopsy with three color FISH PDF Print E-mail

In this example, a patient has undergone IVF with PGD to determine if there are abnormalities in the number of chromosomes.

The cell pictured here is one cell (blastomere) PGD Blastomere 3 color FISH taken from an eight cell embryo. The embryo itself remains in the carefully guarded conditions of the incubator in the IVF lab.
Flourescent in situ hybridization was performed for three chromosomes (Three color FISH): Chromosmes number 13, 18, and 21. These three chromosomes are responsible for a large percentage of failed IVF cycles, miscarriages and can give rise to live born babies with birth defects.
